Divine Intervention Now – Demo

imageimage

When you receive a beautiful wooden box that contains a flash memory drive that literally looks like a bug, you just know you’re not dealing with another run of the mill release. Or at least that’s what Divine Intervention Now wants us to think. Is the music up to the packaging? Pretty much yes. The music of Philip Mahoney has some dark lyrics disguised as happy go lucky and carefree folk music, equipped only with an acoustic guitar and a few simple instruments (like the kalimba) and Mahoney’s wonderfully deadpan, low vocals that kind of remind of me Matthew Dear. Catchy, rolling tunes with a jab of bleakness within. No wonder one of the tags for the album says: “doom folk”. Recommended!
