FiRES WERE SHOT – Pieces of the White SunPosted: December 5, 2013
Beautiful, simple and rustic guitar ambience from Austin, TX based FiRES WERE SHOT, a duo of John Wilkins and Clay Walton, who combine acoustic, all-enveloping string pleasure stemming form the folk music traditions with the tape and loop experiments to mold an oneiric, sunkissed relaxing travel through endless summer meadows and sunsets. Released on cassette from It’s Only Me Records, it’s a perfect combination of analog goodness (I’m just a sucker for all those accidental “noises” at the beginning and the end of the songs) and a great understanding of each other – the guitars work just perfect. Now this is what I call a good dialogue in music! Something for fans of Roy Montgomery’s style of psychedelic bliss who are sad because he hardly records anything anymore (and even when he does, it’s usually some crushing, tectonic guitar noise). Recommended!
