Footpaths – Yonder

The cassette from Jon Rosenthal’s solo lo-fi vehicle Footpaths is part suppressed loner folk and part enlightened ambient music, relishing in delicious tape hiss and pagan guitar loops that walk the edge between songwriting brilliance and primitive shamanism. With each track relating to various places around the American wilderness (mentioning in their names Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Wyoming and West Virginia), it is a testament to a memory of the place and the musical traditions of each region filtered through a prism of homegrown dusted psychedelia. Released on cassette via a mighty interesting Texas label Marmara Records (I might actually be posting something more from them soon, their Bandcamp page looks very primising!) it is a traveller’s log, where the light meets the darkness between the strings of the acoustic guitar. Recommended!
