Jovontaes – Constant Struggle

I gotta admit: I have a soft spot for this sort of lo-fi, meandering psychedelic jamming. I often find it much more trippy and engaging than many super-polished and perfectly produced, big-budget albums loaded with post-production tricks and layers and upon layers of effects. Constant Struggle, a cassette by the Lexington, KY based Jovontaes are an exact opposite of that. Some basic delay and reverb on the guitar, somewhat shy bass that still sets the mood excellently and sublte, cymbal-heavy drumming don’t seem to have much direction. And that’s what psychedelic jamming is all about – it’s about the travel, not the destination. A great, cozy album to get lost in on a grey, rainy autumn afternoon.
