Demonstration Synthesis – DS11Posted: December 3, 2014
Montreal based collage maker turned synth acolyte Daniel Leznoff makes music under the highly science-friendly moniker Demonstration Synthesis. Indeed, the name might be connected to chemistry but here it also takes a wholly new, musical context: the name might suggest a “demonstrative” listening experience, a series of possible uses and possibilities of a synthesizer used to create the cassette. Leznoff takes a dive into the late 00’s world of Ohio synthesist, who were trying to distill the pure essence of the drone, oscillation and sequence driven Berlin School into a rawer, more minimalist form. On DS11 the music oscillates between heavy, hypnotic arpeggios and late Cluster impressions, following the Teutonic masters like an ardent student.
